The event we’ve all been waiting for is finally in our midst – the start of a brand new Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship season. Anaheim 1, “A1” as it is affectionately known by Monster Energy Supercross fans around the globe, is one of the most talked about and highly-anticipated racing events each and every year.

2018 marks the start of a brand new racing format, new stadiums added to the schedule, and the to be expected hype and excitement that comes with the start of a new race season. If you’ve been following along at all, you know that the story that’s being played on repeat is the exciting return to racing for Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen. Kenny has been off the bike and away from real racing conditions for more than 11 months after a devastating and nearly career-ending crash that occurred during Anaheim 2 in 2017. The hype of his return has the whole industry buzzing, “Will Ken Roczen actually be ready do perform come gate drop at Anaheim 1?”

Beyond Ken’s admirable return, 2018 is already shaping up to likely be one of the more competitive seasons in recent Supercross history. Marvin Musquin racked up a near perfect off-season after winning the coveted “Monster Million” at the Monster Energy Cup in October, followed by retaining his crown as the “King of Paris” after winning the Paris-Bercy Supercross for the second year in a row,  and topping it off by also earning the “King of Geneva” crown for the fourth year in a row. There is no doubt that Marvin Musquin has found his stride and could certainly position himself as a title contender in 2018.

Of course we can’t count out Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac, who won 9 total Supercross races in 2018. With the new points structure, Eli may benefit greatly and he might finally get that Monster Energy Supercross title he’s gone after for many years. Throw in a healthy Jason Anderson and Blake Baggett, plus a non-rookie Cooper Webb and we may find that this season in particular might be a total toss up for who will emerge as the most consistent rider this year.

Here are some photos from today’s press day ride and press conference. Looking forward to seeing what the results sheets say at the end of the night and who really emerges victorious this year at A1.
